I tested the new TurboTax and Credit Karma integration and it's seamless

If you haven't filed your taxes yet and are a Credit Karma or QuickBooks user, listen up. Last month, Intuit announced a new feature that allows users to file taxes using TurboTax directly from the Credit Karma app or QuickBooks Online interface.

This story is part of 2024 taxesCNET covers the best tax software, tax tips, and everything else you need to file your return and track your refund.

Credit Karma is a personal finance app that provides users with credit scores and personalized offers for credit cards, personal loans, car loans, and more. QuickBooks is accounting software that allows small business owners to manage their financial books.

By integrating TurboTax into these services, Intuit hopes to make the crossover more seamless for users who want to file their tax returns without creating a new account.

“By integrating TurboTax with Credit Karma and QuickBooks, we can meet our customers where they are, so they can file with complete confidence knowing they'll get the best tax results in a familiar product experience. Intuit's consumer group manager said in a January 8 statement.

The move works to further connect Intuit's digital ecosystem, which also includes email marketing service Mailchimp, which the company acquired in November 2021.

Intuit also encourages Credit Karma users to try the integration and file their taxes through TurboTax by allowing them to file their state and federal taxes for free, regardless of tax complexity, Intuit said in an email. told CNET. If you filed your return with TurboTax last year, you are not eligible.

How TurboTax integration works with Credit Karma

I tested this integration (along with another CNET Money editor) and found it to work as expected. If you are a Credit Karma user who has not previously filed with TurboTax, log in and go to the Settings menu in your browser or the Credit Karma mobile app.[税金と収入]Click on the tab.

From there, basic information is taken from Credit Karma and used to get you started. Although the branding colors are slightly different, the experience is very similar to filing TurboTax online. The Credit Karma version also doesn't have any noticeable TurboTax branding.

Credit Karma users with existing TurboTax accounts like myself can also take advantage of this service. If you filed your taxes with TurboTax in 2023, your tax information from last year will be automatically entered.

Expert tax assistance is available for an additional fee to filers who wish to receive additional assistance when preparing their return. Upgrade options were presented early in the process.

I wasn't asked to leave the Credit Karma app, but when I submitted the file in my browser, I was redirected to the TurboTax URL. However, you'll still see Credit Karma's familiar green and white color scheme while using TurboTax's online software.

What TurboTax integration means for QuickBooks Online customers

Without a QuickBooks Online account or eligible expenses, it was difficult to fully test the user experience of this accounting software. From what I've tested, the integration with QuickBooks Online seems to work pretty much the same way.The customer logs on and clicks on the left navigation panel.[税金]Go to to start filing your self-employment or business declaration.

QuickBooks Online customers must use QuickBooks Live Tax to take advantage of the new TurboTax integration experience.

Business owners are offered one of two options depending on their business structure. Her LLC for sole proprietorships and individual members uses his QuickBooks Live Assisted Tax, which provides unlimited expert advice. Meanwhile, S-Corps, multi-person LLCs and partnerships will hand over their taxes to tax professionals through QuickBooks Live Full Service Tax.

Unlike Credit Karma's offer, there is no free submission option. Prices start at $169. On the plus side, QuickBooks Live Tax gives all businesses year-round access to tax experts for expert advice. This is in addition to the services QuickBooks Online customers already receive, such as identifying tax credits, retrieving receipts, and tracking mileage.
