Day of the Devs has announced that it has become fully independent and a nonprofit organization through a financial sponsorship partnership with philanthropic planning organization Legacy Global.
Founded in 2012 by game developer Double Fine and merchandising company iam8bit, Day of the Devs is a regular festival showcasing some of the best upcoming indie games through both digital and in-person events.
Day of the Devs defines its overall mission as “celebrating the creativity, diversity, and magic of video games, giving voice to emerging and underrepresented talent, and connecting players, developers, and their games. It is explained that it is a “thing”.
This is made possible by new trailers and playable demos that are completely free for both developers and gamers. The lineup of games introduced over the past few years includes gems such as: finder and bomb rush cyber funk And this festival seems like a great way to help raise awareness about some upcoming titles.
Now fully independent, Day of the Devs has severed ties with Double Fine, which was acquired by Microsoft in 2019. The festival says this helps reaffirm its “commitment to being 100% platform independent.”
In addition to this news, Devs of Devs also announced three upcoming events: Day of the Devs 2024: San Francisco Edition, Day of the Devs 2024: GDC Edition, and Day of the Devs 2024: GDC Edition. These will be held over the remainder of the year, using a combination of both in-person and digital formats.
However, hosting multiple free events isn't cheap, and Day of the Devs has also announced a fundraiser to help keep it running. Those who donate $100 will receive bonus Steam copies of many of the games featured at the festival, as well as VIP access to two upcoming events.
Those who donate $250 or more will receive an additional box containing Day of the Devs merchandise, including official mugs, socks, keychains, and more. You can make a donation or see a complete list of rewards on the Day of the Devs website.
