Recent leaks suggest that the upcoming Nothing Phone (2a) may make a shocking design choice by omitting the line's signature glyph lights on the back.
This tidbit comes from prominent industry insider OnLeaks, who shared their findings with news site SmartPrix.he assert your image This is an “official press rendering” and you can clearly see that there is no light in it. In its place is a swirling design element emblematic of Nothing's monochrome style with his two cameras in the top left corner. It looks like a dressed down version of Nothing Phone (2).

Assuming that's all true, removing the glyph is a strange choice in our opinion. Not only is this the brand's signature style, but the company also announced its Glyph Developer Kit, which provides third-party developers with a way to control the rear lights of their Nothing mobile devices. Initially, it was thought that this new-found utility would be extended to phones (2a) as well, but that doesn't seem to be the case now.
SmartPrix points out that these changes may be the result of the company cutting corners. Nothing Phone (2a) is going to be a mid-ranger, so it won't be as powerful as the older Phone (2). Maybe that glyph is one of the characteristics to get the axe.
Other potential designs
It's worth mentioning that there's a second leak circulating on X (the platform formerly known as Twitter) that's muddying the waters. Abhishek Yadav, another industry insider, posted an actual image of what he claims is a phone (2a). Don't trust bulky black frames too much. GSMArena states that this is a hidden case that aims to hide the actual design of the smartphone. What you should pay attention to is the camera array on the back.

Unlike the Phone (2), the lenses are aligned horizontally near the top. This mirrors an older leak from December 2023 that shows a similar positioning. Additionally, Yadav's post lists the specifications of the phone (2a), which suggests it will feature a 6.7-inch Full HD Plus (2,220 x 1,080 pixels resolution) AMOLED display and may be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 chipset. One thing became clear. There are two 50MP lenses on the back and a 32MP selfie camera on the front.
Analysis: Conflicting leaks
It is difficult to know which of the two to suspect. Although Yadav's post contains detailed information, OnLeaks claims that many of his Phone 2a leaks there are inaccurate or unreliable. His words carry weight because OnLeaks has proven itself to be a reliable source of information. He has gotten many details correct over the years. Therefore, we are leaning toward the press rendering, which we envision as the more likely design.
When it comes to specifications, Yadav provides much needed information. Currently, little is known about the hardware of the phone (2a). Of course, things can always change at the last minute, so take everything here with a grain of salt.
You may not have to wait long for more information. Online rumors suggest that Nothing may hold an event at his MWC 2024 (Mobile World Congress) in Barcelona to announce future devices.
