LG has announced its 2024 OLED TV lineup, and as expected, we know it will feature the TV maker's mid-range OLED offering, the LG C4, and its flagship OLED model, the LG G4.
The LG C4 and G4's predecessors, the LG C3 and LG G3, were both two of the best TVs released last year. We gave each TV four and a half stars after testing and named the LG G3 “Best for Movies” in the TechRadar Choice Awards 2023. In short, both the C4 and G4 have a lot to live up to.
At CES 2024, we were able to see both of these TVs in person, confirming that both have been upgraded from last year's models, and the increased brightness that LG promised with the C4 was immediately apparent in person. did.
But how do the LG C4 and LG G4 compare? Does the mid-range C4 offer any upgrades from last year's model, with the G4 being more expensive than its predecessor?
LG C4 vs LG G4: price, size, release date
As of now, there is no official release date or price for the LG C4 or LG G4 yet, so we can only speculate what these will be like based on last year's models.
As for potential release dates, both the LG C3 and LG G3 are expected to launch in March 2023 after being announced at CES 2023 in January 2023. This was also true for C2 and C1 in the years before that, so this is to be expected. The same goes for C4 and G4.
In terms of size, the LG C4 will be available in the same 42-83 inch size range as the C3, while the LG G4 will again be available in the same 55-83 inch size as the G3, and will be available in 97 inches. . His LG G2 was last in this size in 2022.

LG C4 and LG G4: Features
Both the LG C4 and G4 will feature new and improved processors. The C4 uses the new Alpha 9 Gen7 chip and claims to improve brightness and introduce more AI Picture Mode features. The LG G4 is equipped with an Alpha 11 chip and introduces several new features, including the addition of AI Picture Mode functionality and improved brightness. The most exciting new feature of these two chips is that when paired with a compatible LG soundbar, the chips can wirelessly transmit lossless Dolby Atmos. This could be the next big home theater technology race.
As for the panels, both the C4 and G4 feature the same OLED Evo panels as last year's models, with the G4 once again featuring Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology for improved brightness over standard OLED models. Speaking of MLA, last year's G3 83-inch model was not equipped with it, but LG has confirmed that this year's G4 83-inch model will be equipped with MLA technology.
There are currently no numbers on what peak brightness levels these two models reach, but there's a pretty significant difference between last year's C3 and G3, which reached 830 nits and 1,449 nits, respectively.
This year, LG promised brightness improvements for both the C4 and G4, but when we looked at the two sets in person, the C4's brightness increase was more impressive than the G4's when compared to previous models. . When we saw the C4 in the flesh, we immediately noticed its extra “oomph and pop.” The way HDR highlights improved image quality was simply dazzling. This was most noticeable in the white areas of the screen, where the extra cleanliness was visible.
We estimate that the C4 is capable of reaching a peak brightness of 900 to 1,000 nits, and LG said this is a good guide. This means it's a pretty big step up over the C3. LG also boasts higher brightness in its smaller 42-inch and 48-inch sizes (although it's not as bright as the 55-inch Plus size).
When we looked at the two models at CES, the G4 had better image quality (as expected since MLA technology improves brightness and contrast), but the C4 saw the biggest upgrade from last time. This is the model that was created. Year. What surprised us the most was his much improved HDR performance on set.
LG's OLED also has improved gaming capabilities, with both the C4 and G4 now compatible with 144Hz refresh rates. This won't affect console gamers (as consoles have a maximum speed of 120Hz), but it will be welcome news for PC gamers. Both sets are AMD Freesync and Nvidia G-Sync certified and come with LG's Game Optimizer menu.
Built-in sound was one of the weaknesses of the LG C3, but unfortunately we weren't able to hear the built-in sound of the C4 or G4 at CES, so we don't yet know if this has improved. In theory, both are upmixed to his 11.1.2 channel in AI Sound Pro settings. Among last year's models, the G3 had a more powerful sound, so I think the C4 and G4 are similar.
We haven't had a chance to fully test the C4 and G4 yet, but from what we can tell and what we've already seen, the G4 will of course maintain its position as a more premium and well-equipped TV, but the C4 still looks great. It's an even bigger improvement over its predecessor.
LG C4 vs LG G4: Design
Both the C4 and G4 maintain a similar design to their predecessors. I'm not saying this is a bad thing. We praised the sleek, sleek look of the C3 and G3, but criticized the fact that the G3 didn't come with a stand. Inside the box.
We appreciate that the G3 was designed with wall-mounting in mind, and that a wall mount is included in the box, but if you want to buy the G3 but can't mount it on a wall, you'll have to buy the expensive optional stand. I had to choose. .
Thankfully, LG has heard and confirmed that the G4 will ship with a stand included in the box. Availability outside of the US has not been officially confirmed, but in the US the stand will ship with his 55-inch and 65-inch models. For larger sizes such as 77-inch, 83-inch, and 97-inch sizes, we offer zero-gap wall mounts.
LG C4 vs LG G4: Verdict
We can only judge based on the specs and what we've seen at CES so far, but the LG G4 should be a great TV thanks to its higher brightness and MLA technology with AI features. But in reality, the C4 appears to be the more exciting upgrade of his two products. It has increased peak brightness and produces better images than the C3 while maintaining a wide range of sizes.
Once we're able to test these two models, which should be in the next couple of months, we'll be able to see their capabilities in action, but all we can say so far is that the C4 may end up being more valuable. two models.
